Wetherspoons Sides Menu
The Wetherspoons sides menu carries 16 items from £0.99 to £5.49, and it is where most orders get topped up. A bowl of chips is £4.09, the small bowl £2.59, onion rings £2.55 and a side salad £2.49.
Chicken portions live here as well as on the main sections. Five chicken wings are £3.10 at 445 kcal, five chicken breast bites the same price at 153 kcal, and eight Whitby breaded scampi £5.49.
The small extras are what keep the floor low. Gravy is £0.99, peas £1.09, mushy peas £1.09 and coleslaw £1.60. Calories across the section run from 37 to 964 kcal, averaging 296, a range explained almost entirely by chips at one end and vegetables at the other.
Prices come from the brand's published menu and are set per pub. Check your local or see the full menu for everything else.

Chips, Swaps And What A Side Really Costs
The two chip sizes are the most ordered thing in this section and the gap between them is worth doing the sums on. A full bowl of chips is £4.09 at 964 kcal; the small bowl is £2.59 at 602 kcal. Two people sharing a full bowl pay less than two smalls and get more, so the full bowl is the order for a table and the small one for a single diner.
Most main dishes let you swap the chips that come with them for a side salad, spicy rice or mash at no charge, which makes this section optional rather than expected. Where it earns its place is the vegetables: Tenderstem broccoli and peas at £1.50 and 91 kcal, or a Mediterranean side salad at £3.42. Adding one of those to a pub classic changes the shape of the meal for about a pound and a half.
