Pubs And Opening Times

How many Wetherspoons pubs are there in the UK?
810 across 99 counties and 591 towns, including 54 with hotel rooms. Find your nearest.
What time does Wetherspoons open and close?
Most open at 8am. Closing varies far more than opening. The commonest pattern is kept by about 56% of pubs, and city-centre sites run later. Full opening times.
Is Wetherspoons open on bank holidays?
Usually yes, sometimes on reduced hours. The exception is Christmas Day, when pubs close. Bank holidays also differ between England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. the full holiday table lists all of them.
Do all Wetherspoons pubs have the same menu?
Broadly, but not exactly. Wetherspoon runs several menu versions at once, so a smaller pub may carry a shorter list, and some pubs skip a club night entirely. The menu here comes from a pub carrying a near-complete list, checked against 24 others.
Which Wetherspoons pubs are busiest?
By number of pubs in one town, Birmingham (16), Leeds (14), Liverpool (14) lead the list. City-centre and station pubs keep the longest hours.
Can I book a table at Wetherspoons?
No. Wetherspoon does not take table bookings for food, and seating is first come, first served. Hotel rooms are the exception and are booked separately. More on the hotels.
What time does Wetherspoons stop serving breakfast?
Breakfast runs until 12pm, every day, in every pub. It starts when the doors open, so the breakfast window is one of the longest on the high street. The breakfast menu with prices.
What time does Wetherspoons stop serving food?
Most kitchens serve until 10pm or 11pm, roughly an hour before the pub itself closes, and city centre sites run latest. The exact hour is set per pub, so check yours on its own page before a late visit.
What time does Wetherspoons start serving alcohol?
Most pubs serve alcohol from 9am, even though the doors open at 8am for breakfast. The hour comes from each pub's licence rather than from the chain, and airport pubs are licensed to serve earlier for departing flights.
What time does Wetherspoons start serving lunch?
The main menu starts at 11:30am and runs to kitchen close, so lunch is available from late morning with no separate lunch sitting. Breakfast overlaps it until 12pm.
Is Wetherspoons open on Christmas Day?
No. Christmas Day is the one day of the year Wetherspoon pubs close. Boxing Day and New Year's Day are normally open, often on reduced hours set by each pub. The full holiday table.
How many Wetherspoons pubs are in London?
93 across Greater London, the most of any UK county, from the West End out to the boroughs plus the Heathrow terminals. England as a whole has 704 of the 810 total. Every London pub.
Which airports have a Wetherspoons?
Manchester, Heathrow, Edinburgh, Gatwick, Birmingham, Stansted all have a Wetherspoon airside. Heathrow has three across its terminals and Gatwick three across both. There is no Wetherspoons at Luton or East Midlands airport. Airport pubs open for the first departures and price above the high street.
Are dogs allowed in Wetherspoons?
No. Dogs have been banned from all Wetherspoon pubs since September 2018, beer gardens included. Assistance dogs are the only exception. The full policy and the dispute around it.
Does Wetherspoons have Wi-Fi?
Yes, free Wi-Fi is standard: 720 of the 810 pubs we track list it among their facilities. No purchase is technically required, though buying a coffee with free refills is the customary rent.
Does Wetherspoons show football?
As a rule, no. Wetherspoon pubs carry no Sky or TNT Sports subscriptions, so week to week football is not shown and screens where present run muted news. Major international tournaments are the exception, with many pubs screening England games at recent World Cups and Euros.

Nutrition And Allergens

Does Wetherspoons show calories on the menu?
Yes. UK law requires it for large chains, and we hold calorie figures for 186 of the 192 dishes here. Add up a whole order.
What is the lowest calorie meal at Wetherspoons?
Across the menu the range runs from 11 kcal (Sliced pickled gherkins) to 1883 kcal (The Empire State). Many dishes let you swap chips for a side salad or rice, which moves the figure by several hundred. Compare dishes.
Are there vegan and vegetarian options at Wetherspoons?
Yes. 29 of the dishes we track are marked vegan or vegetarian, including Quorn versions of several meat dishes and a plant burger. See the vegan and vegetarian menu.
How do I check allergens at Wetherspoons?
Ask in the pub or use the brand's own allergen tool, which is the only source kept current per dish and per site. This is an independent site and does not publish allergen data, because getting it slightly out of date would be worse than not carrying it at all.
Do the calories include the side and the drink?
The figure shown is for the dish as the menu describes it. Where a dish offers a choice of side, the calories change with the choice and the alternatives are listed with the dish. A drink in a meal deal is on top.

Ordering And Payment

How does the Wetherspoons app work?
You pick your pub, then your table number, then order and pay in the app and it comes to you. There is no queue at the bar and no account needed. A full walkthrough.
Does Wetherspoons deliver?
No. There is no Deliveroo, Uber Eats or Just Eat partnership. Ordering is in-pub only, at the bar or through the app to your table.
Does Wetherspoons do gift cards?
Yes, and it is the only stored-value product the brand issues. It pays a bill rather than discounting one. How they work and where to buy.
Can I pay cash?
Yes, at the bar. The app is card only. Both take the same prices. The app carries no separate pricing and no offers.
Does Wetherspoons do takeaway?
No. There is no takeaway service and no delivery: food is ordered at the bar or in the app and served to your table. What Wetherspoon sells, it sells inside the pub.

About Wetherspoons

Who owns Wetherspoons?
J D Wetherspoon plc, a company listed on the London Stock Exchange, owned by its shareholders. Founder Tim Martin is chairman and the largest single shareholder with roughly a quarter of the stock. The full ownership story.
When was Wetherspoons founded?
In 1979, when Tim Martin opened the first pub in Muswell Hill, north London. That original site is no longer a Wetherspoon; the chain grew from it to around 800 pubs. How it grew.
Why is it called Wetherspoons?
After a teacher. Tim Martin named the chain for a Mr Wetherspoon who told him he would never amount to anything, and took the "J D" from a character in The Dukes of Hazzard. The name sounds like an old family brewer and is neither.
Why is Wetherspoons so cheap?
Because the whole business is built for it: freehold buildings, huge buying volume, no music licences, long trading hours and deliberately thin margins. The saving is structural rather than a promotion. The full breakdown.
Is Wetherspoons halal?
No. The company states that no halal items are offered, suppliers are not asked for halal certified meat, and there are no plans to change. The vegetarian and vegan range is the practical option, with a shared kitchen caveat. The full answer.
Is Wetherspoons a franchise?
No. Nearly every pub is owned and managed directly by J D Wetherspoon plc, which is part of why the chain is so uniform. A small number of franchised sites exist, at university unions and at Haven holiday parks, and those set their own prices.
Is there a Wetherspoons at Haven holiday parks?
Yes. Haven and Wetherspoon struck a franchise deal in 2025 that put pubs into four parks, including Primrose Valley in Yorkshire and Kiln Park in Tenby, with Devon Cliffs and Craig Tara alongside. These are park pubs for Haven guests, they set their own prices, and they do not appear in Wetherspoon's own pub directory.
How much is Wetherspoons worth?
Sales passed £2 billion in the 2023/24 financial year, from around 800 pubs. The company's market value moves daily with the share price on the London Stock Exchange, so check the live figure rather than any number printed on a page.
